Chika Idu was born in 1974 in the village of Umunede in Delta state Nigeria, west Africa. He studied painting in Auchi polytechnic in Edo state Nigeria between 1993-1998 where he was greatly inspired by the colorist movement theories adopted by the school.
He is known in some quarters as a water colorist but in truth Chika has a rare gift of excelling in any medium he chooses to explore. His works are tied around the bond between women and children as he feels these two cannot be seperated since they both exist in a complex world dominated by men. His work themes rotate around the complexities of culture, tradition as it relates to the rights and positions of women and children in the compound and larger society, not just an African capsule but a global trend.
His most recent works are inspired by his environmental concern.
His style of painting is inspired by dust and other atmospheric visual imperativesm he achieves this through the use of unconventional art tools which varies with different mediums.
His working mediums include water colors, oil, and acrylic.
